Doug Bock Clark was investigative producer for the HBO documentary The Last Cruise, which was inspired by his reporting for GQ on the nightmare voyage of a cruise ship struck by a Covid outbreak. It was a finalist for the Emmy Award for Outstanding for Short Documentary, the Best Short Documentary Award from the Critics' Choice Documentary Awards, and the Outstanding Achievement in Short Film from the Cinema Eye Honors Awards. The Guardian called it: "Dread-filled, unsettling... The Last Cruise evokes the fear and anxiety of coexisting with a then novel, amorphous, poorly understood threat... an 'origin story' [of the pandemic]"; RogerEbert.com said, "With visual precision and remarkable intimacy, [the documentary] recalls... the outset of the pandemic." The San Francisco Chronicle wrote: "Fascinating... Takes us inside the experience of being stuck inside a floating prison, unwanted by any port..."; The Chicago Sun Times: "Compelling"; USA Today: "Jolting"; The Los Angeles Times: "Harrowing."
